With the first successful vaccine being noted as being developed by Edward Jenner in 1796 for the Smallpox, vaccines now save around 3 million lives worldwide each year.1
Vaccination is one of the most significant achievements we’ve accomplished and is arguably the most cost-effective preventative health intervention.
Expanding access to and education on immunisation is crucial to continuing to increase disease prevention vaccines provide against infectious diseases such as:
- whooping cough
World Immunisation Week, 24-30 April 2018
As the World Health Organisation explains;
"The unique value of vaccines was the driving force behind the Decade of Vaccines, an effort launched at the 2010 World Economic Forum and supported by many stakeholders to extend the full benefits of immunisation to all by 2020. Governments welcomed the initiative, and 194 member states endorsed the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP), a framework to prevent millions of deaths from vaccine-preventable diseases by 2020, at the Sixty-fifth World Health Assembly in 2012.
GVAP aims to strengthen routine immunisation, accelerate control of vaccine-preventable diseases with polio eradication as the first milestone, introduce new vaccines, and spur research and development for the next generation of vaccines and technologies."
IMMUNISATIONS AT HAWTHORNE CLINIC
The doctors and nurses at Hawthorne clinic are staunch advocates of immunisation.
We offer scheduled booster, seasonal and travel vaccinations and also offer ‘catch-up immunisations for patients that have missed school-based vaccinations or have moved from abroad.
We follow the National Immunisation Program Schedule and Government and Private vaccinations are available.
The vaccinations available at Hawthorne Clinic are :
Some ‘catch-up’ vaccines may need to be ordered in. All vaccinations are stored according to strict guidelines and are available for purchase from the clinic.
Appointments for routine (scheduled, booster and seasonal) vaccinations are generally bulk billed. Appointments for travel vaccinations will be charged at the usual consultation fee in addition to the vaccination cost. We ask that all patients wait for a minimum of 15 minutes following their vaccination to ensure appropriate care is available should there be an immediate reaction to the vaccination.
We also offer flu clinics for influenza vaccination during the lead up to the flu season each year. The 2018 flu clinic is now open and we encourage patients to book in for their flu vax in later April onwards, to ensure optimum coverage is provided during the peak flu season.
