Dr Masato Kato

PhD, MBBS, Dip Child Hlth, FRACGP

Dr Kato graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Queensland in 2011. Alongside this, he also holds a PhD in Biochemistry from Nagoya University (Japan) as well as Diploma in Child Health from the University of Sydney.

 

Before starting his medical practice, Dr Kato worked as a medical research scientist in the USA, New Zealand and Australia. He completed his residency in Logan Hospital from 2012-2014.

 

After a 3-year training stint in paediatrics at Mater Children’s Hospital, Logan Hospital and Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital (now Queensland Children’s Hospital), Dr Kato entered general practitioner training in 2017. He has since worked in Goondiwindi and Pittsworth as a GP registrar. Later obtaining a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, he joined Hawthorne Clinic in 2021.


Dr Kato is interested in all aspects of general practice - in particular, paediatrics, men’s health, dermatology, minor surgeries and musculoskeletal medicine.

Dr Kato offers a Musculoskeletal Medicine Clinic. He has completed certificates for musculoskeletal medicine and prolotherapy workshop from Australian Association of Musculoskeletal Medicine.

Dr Wendy Harvey

BSc Hons (UTas) MBBS (Qld) MPH FRACGP. General Practitioner

Originally hailing from Tasmania, Dr Wendy Harvey moved to Queensland to study medicine at the University of Queensland. Since graduating in 2000 she has worked multiple roles in both private and public hospitals, all the while gaining experience in a range of medical fields.

 

Her interest in public health eventually saw her pursue a career as a general practitioner, a role she’s enjoyed for more than three years now. Dr Harvey’s focuses as a GP include evidence-based medical practice, working with older patients and women's health.

Dr Ruth Best

General Practitioner

Dr Best obtained her vocational registration with the College of General Practitioners in 1986 following her graduation from the University of Queensland (1980). Now with over 30 years of General Practice experience, Dr Best has worked both as a locum in Brisbane and Central Queensland and as a resident GP in the Redlands.

 

As a GP, Dr Best specialises in women’s health - often for multiple generations of the same family. Her interest in women’s health has focuses in contraception, IUD insertion and breast disease.

 

When not working as a GP, Dr Best has pursued a love of teaching for nearly 20 years. She has taught on medical topics at the University of Queensland and is currently a tutor at Bond University.

Dr Fang-Wei Chen

BPharm  MBBS  FRACGP  DCH General Practitioner

Dr Fang-Wei Chen grew up in Brisbane and initially completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) in 2007 before her MBBS in 2012, both at the University of Queensland. She has a keen interest in Paediatrics and completed her Diploma of Child Health in 2016. She has previously worked at the Mater Hospital, Nambour Hospital, and other GP Practices in Brisbane before joining the team at Hawthorne clinic.

​

As a general practitioner, she walks with her patients through their individual journeys, helping to guide them to achieve their goals. Her other interests are mental health, women’s health (including antenatal and Implanon insertion), sexual health and lifestyle medicine.

Dr Sarah Gillman

MB ChB (Auckland) FRACGP General Practitioner 

Dr Sarah Gillman is a New Zealand General Practitioner who moved to Australia and did her training and GP specialist exams in Queensland. She has also worked in the UK, Hong Kong and Sydney.

 

Sarah started at Hawthorne Clinic in August 2004.

 

Dr Carmen Main

BSc Hons MBBS (Qld) FRACGP General Practitioner

Dr Carmen Main graduated in 2003 from the University of Queensland. Prior to her medical degree she obtained an Honours Degree from UQ in Science, with a special interest in Microbiology. Working at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital and Royal Children’s Hospital before completing her GP fellowship in 2010.

 

Carmen enjoys the diversity of general practice and has a special interest in women’s health and antenatal care, balancing her time in general practice with surgical assisting. She has 2 young children. 

 

Dr Keith MacLaverty

MB ChB (U.K) FRACGP General Practitioner

Dr Keith Maclaverty graduated in 1984 from Liverpool University, UK, He has worked in general practice since 1989 in Manchester, UK, New Zealand and Australia. He is interested in all aspects of general practice but particularly young families.

Dr Keith MacLaverty commenced at Hawthorne Clinic in 2011. 

Dr Patricia O'Connor

MBBS (Qld) FRACGP General Practitioner

Dr Patricia O’Connor graduated in 1977 from the University of Queensland.  She received her fellowship in the RACGP in 1983. For over 35 years she has been working in general practice in Sunnybank.

She has a broad experience across all areas of general practice, with a special interest and extended training in travel medicine.

Dr Natalie Bowring

BA MBBS Hons (Qld) FRACGP General Practitioner

Dr Natalie Bowring graduated in 2001 with Honours from the University of Queensland Medical School. She initially worked at Toowoomba Base Hospital and the Royal Children's' Hospital Emergency Department, working in a variety of general practices both in Brisbane and Toowoomba. She enjoys all aspects of general practice and has a particular interest in paediatric medicine, antenatal shared care and women's health (including gynaecological issues, contraceptive advice and implant insertion/removal). 

 

Natalie has gained much experience during her time working at the Mater Adults Hospital Dermatology Outpatients and has an ongoing interest in the diagnosis and management of rashes and skin cancers [including biopsies and excisions].

Dr Yasumitsu Takao

MBBS (Syd) FRACGP  DCH MPH General Practitioner

Dr Yasu Takao graduated in 2008 from The University of Sydney Medical School. He initially worked at St George Hospital, Sydney and has worked in various hospitals in New South Wales. He completed his general practice training in Sydney and Tamworth and has most recently been working in a general practice in Tamworth. 

 

Yasu enjoys all aspects of general practice with a special interest in men's health, preventative medicine, travel medicine and chronic disease management.

 

 Yasu completed a Diploma in Child Health (DCH). He also completed Master of Public Health. He has interest in non-communicable disease prevention such as diabetes and obesity. He is also a member of the Australasian College of Tropical Medicine.

 

Yasu grew up in Japan, Switzerland, USA and Singapore. He is fluent in English and Japanese.

Dr Sonia Jitpiriyaroj

Dr Sonia graduated from Monash University in Melbourne with honours in 2014. She then joined Monash University to gain further experience in various specialties including paediatrics, women’s health, endocrinology, kidney medicine and geriatrics. Sonia became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2021 and moved to Brisbane to enjoy the sunny weather and outdoor lifestyle.

 

Sonia loves being a GP and has a particular interest in preventative medicine, adolescent health, chronic disease management and women’s health (including the insertion of Implanons). She loves to take a thorough approach in her practice and enjoys counselling on weight management, stress management and self-care.

Dr Nevin Colgrave

Nevin is an experienced GP, having worked as a doctor in a variety of challenging environments over more than 15 years. After graduating from the University of Sydney in 2005 and completing 2 years of hospital-based training in Hobart, Nevin worked as a Medical Officer in the Australian Army for 5 years. During this time, he completed training in the management of chemical, biological and radiation casualties in the US and Israel, and deployed to Afghanistan on two occasions with the Special Operations Task Group.

​

After leaving the full-time army in 2013, Nevin established a family-focussed general practice in Samford Village and completed post-graduate qualifications in dermatology and child health. More recently, Nevin spent 4 years in Hobart working and training in neurosurgery before returning to Brisbane in early 2021 and settling in Bulimba. In addition to his work at Hawthorne Clinic, Nevin works as a civilian GP at Enoggera Barracks and as a neurosurgical assistant at Mater Hospital.

​

He continues to remain active with the Army Reserves as a doctor and an accredited Chinese linguist. Beyond medicine and the military, Nevin enjoys exercising, bushwalking and playing on one of his pinball machines. He is also a keen musician, playing viola in a community orchestra in Nundah.

Dr Margot Doherty

Dr Margot completed her medical studies at James Cook University in 2015 and started her career as a GP in rural Far North Queensland in 2018. She obtained her fellowship with RACGP in 2020 and has furthered her studies with a Diploma in Child Health and a Certificate in Primary Care Dermatology. She decided to make Brisbane her new home at the start of 2023 and is looking forward to putting down roots and getting to know the community.

 

She loves the variety of General Practice but if had to pick areas of interest they would be child and adolescent health, women's health and skin conditions. In her downtime Dr Margot enjoys a bit of yoga and pilates, playing the violin and cups of tea with her partner.

Melinda Collinge

Registered Nurse

Melinda qualified in 1987 in General Nursing and Midwifery and specialised in Trauma and Emergency Nursing. She has worked in Emergency Centres in South Africa, a Medical Outpatient Clinic in the UAE, and various General Practices around Queensland before joining the Hawthorne Clinic in 2010.

 

Melinda enjoys the continuity of care that general practice offers the patients, as well as the diversity of patient demographics, ranging from young families to the long-standing patients of the practice.

Melinda Reynolds

Registered Nurse

Melinda has 20 years of nursing experience, specialising in perioperative nursing. She has been a general practice nurse for over 5 years.

Anne Moran

Anne Moran

Registered Nurse

Anne has been nursing since 1988. She is a registered midwife at the Mater Mothers Hospital and recently has added General Practice Nursing to her repertoire of skills.  

Anne shares her time at Hawthorne Clinic between Chronic Disease Management and general patient care.

Christalla Kossaris

Registered Nurse

Christalla graduated nursing in 2012.  She began her nursing career in the Vascular Department at The Princess Alexandra Hospital.  

 

Christalla enjoys General Practice nursing for the large diversity of care required. She likes having the chance to provide primary health care to patients and to interact with the community.

Erin Joyce

Registered Nurse

Erin graduated as Nurse and Paramedic in 2013. During her time at university she joined the Hawthorne clinic as a receptionist. On completion of her dual degree she decided to begin her career as a Paramedic, moving to Central Queensland then back to Brisbane in 2017. In 2020 she returned to the clinic, now joining the team as a Registered Nurse.

Erin splits her time between working at the Hawthorne Clinic and as a Paramedic. Erin loves working in the primary health care setting and enjoys the continuity of care for our patients and their families.

Tracey Crook

Tracey Crook

Registered Nurse

Tracey graduated Nursing in 1991 and initially specialised in Emergency Nursing working at both Redland Hospital and Mater Private Hospital. She has also worked in a variety of general practices before joining the Hawthorne Clinic team. Tracey finds fulfilment in the diverse care provided to patients of all age groups, appreciating the continuity of care that general practice offers.
